The Laproscopic Gastric Banding Procedure, (here after referred to as LAP band) involves placing an adjustable silicone band around part of the stomach. This creates a smaller “pouch” in which food is held in the stomach. When patients who have had this procedure eat, they experience a feeling of fullness when the pouch fills, and therefore, they eat less. The stomach has the ability to stretch over time, so the LAP-Band is adjusted with injections of sterile fluid in a port just under the skin.
