Sugar Busters Diet

General:
The Sugar Busters Diet a diet which eliminates sources of sugar and other high glycemic carbohydrates, in order to lower insulin in the blood

Types of food allowed:
Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables with a low glycemic index. The diet eliminates all refined sugar, white flour and its products (white bread, cake, bagels, crackers, etc), potatoes, and other foods that are high on the glycemic index.

Advantages:
Eliminates most "Junk Food" by emphasizing sugar's toxicity on the body. Emphasis on avoiding highly processed foods such as many deserts, helps keep foods of low nutritional value out of the diet.

Disadvantages:
This program uses the "Glycemic Index" to identify 'good' and 'bad' carbohydrates. Unfortunately, the glycemic index can only be applied this way if a carbohydrate is eaten singly; if eaten in combination with other foods, it changes the glycemic index and the food's effect on glucose metabolism. Eliminates many healthful, beneficial foods unnecessarily.

Health Issues:
Athletes and hard core exercisers need high glycemic carbohydrates for energy and should avoid this diet.
